Hello friends, today I’ll be talking about an extremely important topic..
Cancer Awareness
In yesterday’s newspaper there was a very nice article, which has made me write this post. It had one good news, and one bad news.. The good news was in India there are less percentage of cancer cases, as compared to the world.
But the bad news was, even though we have less cancer patients, but chances of deaths due to cancer is one of the highest.
The reason for this is – late detection of cancer. Most of the people come to know of the cancer at a very late stage, and hence it is difficult to treat.
In this post I’ll be sharing you very basic information that the general population should know about.
- What cancers are common in males & female?
- Are there any warning signs?
- What are simple tests that one can take, to know of cancer?
- Can children get cancers??
- Are all cancers incurable? Cancer means death?
- What cancers are common in males & female?
- Commonest cancer in Males – Oral (Tongue, Pharynx), Lung, Stomach, Prostate, Liver
- Commonest cancer in Females – Breast, Cervix, Rectum, Ovary, Oral
- Are there any warning signs?
- Most of the cancers don’t show any particular symptom in their initial stages. So it is always better to get yourself examined by your doctor regularly, and do the tests as advised by him.
- Important general signs are – loss of weight, low appetite, frequently falling sick, extreme weakness, extreme hairfall, painful fast growing swelling in the body, blood in motion/urine/vomit/cough.
- Specific symptoms of the cancer vary from cancer to cancer.
- What are simple tests that one can take, to know of cancer?
- In India, health is completely neglected. People don’t like to go for regular check up, they would go to the doctor only if you they fall sick. (If you own a bike/car do you go to the mechanic only if the car stops on the road? We need to get ourselves checked regularly to see if there are any warning signs, which can be caught early and proper treatment is started)
- Men should get their mouth checked for oral cancer, X-ray chest might be done if the doctor suspects lung cancer.
- Regular blood check up – Haemoglobin, PSA (for Prostate), Blood sugar are beneficial.
- Men who smoke or consume alcohol should undergo regular check-up
- For women breast cancer and Cervical cancer are highly common but also can be detected at early stages.
- Every female should learn self breast examination and do it regularly, or get herself checked by her doctor.
- Mammography should be done once in two years, after age 35-40; Pap smear should be done every year.
- If you have a family history of any cancer, you should be extra careful and undergo regular check-ups.
- Can children get cancers??
- Yes, children also can get cancers, so one has to be aware of them too..
- Children can get cancers like – Lymphoma, Leukemia (commonly called as blood cancer)
- Important warning signs are – low weight child, short height, falling sick frequently, swellings in the body.
- Are all cancers incurable? Cancer means death?
Absolutely no. There has been lot of research done in last decades on cancer. Most of the cancers if detected early can be treated with simple medicines. And the person lives an extremely healthy life. The most important thing is early detection of the cancer. Having cancer doesn’t mean your days are limited now. I have seen patients living happily even 20 years after their cancer was removed. So please get yourself, your parents, relatives and friends regularly checked. Be aware of your body and meet your doctor.
We never forget to renew our mediclaim, insurance, investment schemes, club membership. We make sure we go to trip atleast once every year. Then why not visit your doctor before its too late??
Stay Healthy. Stay Happy.
Keep Smiling and make others smile too.
