Hello all, the weather is beautiful since last few days. I’m sure most of you would have made plans for some monsoon trip like – Lonavala, Mahabaleshar, Palitana, Girnar, Goa, Treks, National park etc.
As I had told in my previous post, there are high chances of catching an infection in the monsoon. So keep these things in mind while you are at that trip, so that you enjoy the weather and don’t come back sick.
- Be hydrated. Dehydration is one of the most important cause why one falls sick. This is a common mistake most people do. The weather is cool and we do not feel thirsty. But if you are on a trek, on the beach for long; one forgets to drink water. Make sure you drink 2-3 liters of water every day. This is especially for children.
- Do not drink roadside water/food. This is a big No. It’s good to enjoy in the rains, go for trips. But avoid too much outside food and water. (For detailed information – check my last blog – Food stuff to Avoid in Monsoon)
- Carry mosquito repellent creams/nets. Make sure you are away from mosquito bites. Wear full length trousers and t-shirts. Mosquito bites can cause Malaria, Dengue etc.
- Do not get drenched in heavy rains. Do not be in wet clothes for long. People having long hair should dry them soon. One may get high grade fever because of it.
- Do not walk from water logged areas. There are chances of getting leptospirosis.
- If you get any cuts or small wounds, please apply an antiseptic ointment and cotton on it. Do not keep the wound open, otherwise there are very high chances of infection and pus formation. And if the bandage gets wet, immediately remove it and apply a fresh bandage. A wet bandage increases the chances of bacterial growth.
- Carry a set of medicine along with you. But do not self-medicate. Call your doctor or visit a local doctor. You are carrying the medicine because you may not get a pharmacy nearby, but your doctor is just a call away. Do not self-medicate.
- When going for treks – wear proper foot wear to avoid slipping, cuts. Wear full length clothes, carry a full length raincoat, a bottle of water, and some snacks for the trip.
Hope you have a safe trip. If you have any difficulties you can always call us. The best solution is to take your doctor along with you on the trip 🙂
