0

Hello all, last time I talked about Hairfall in women, today I’ll be focusing on Hairfall in men. (To read Hairfall in women – click here)

I’ll be again talking about the common causes and the ways to prevent them.

  1. Male Pattern baldness (Androgenetic Alopecia) – It is the commonest cause of baldness. Basically it is not actually a disease, it is just the way your body is made. It is like your skin color, eye color, jo hai woh hai, its better to accept it. I can understand it seems a big negative point, but there are very few treatments available for this, most have temporary results. Hair transplant, hair weaving etc are of some benefits.
  2. Hair styling – Excessive use of hair gels, hair color, tying a tight pony, excessive use of shampoo etc.
  3. Dandruff – Men have lot of dandruff issues – oil your hair overnight before washing, and wash them twice a week at least. Use a mild anti-dandruff shampoo. (Avoid caps, helmets – which have lot of sweat, sharing caps/helmets)
  4. Nutrition – diet poor in calcium, iron, proteins. College boys not carrying lunch and eating in canteen. Office goers/shopkeepers not carrying proper lunch. Many eat roadside snack as meals. You loose on lot of important nutrients. (Read – Protein, Calcium)
  5. Hypothyroid – Hypothyroid though rare in men, but it does occur in men, and can cause hairfall. Please meet you doctor, and get tested.
  6. Habits – Smoking, tobacco chewing, hookah, alcohol, weed etc. all these habits indirectly affect hair growth. For proper treatment, the person has to stop all these habits.
  7. Obesity – Obesity, high cholesterol, fatty liver, Diabetes all add to the hairloss. Losing weight is essential.
  8. Recovery from illness – Recovering from illness like – Typhoid, jaundice, malaria, dengue, TB etc. Focus on eating right and resting well, the hair growth will return to normal.
  9. Stress!!! – Long term stressful conditions may lead to hair fall – office pressures, financial issues, household issues, girlfriend issues, ex-girlfriend issues, studies pressure, pressure of children etc.
