Hello everyone, Hypothyroidism is one of the commonest disorder seen these days, and many of you were asking me to write a post on this. So here it is..
I’ll be explaining few simple things that you need to know from general public’s point of view.
What is hypothyroidism?
Thyroid gland is an organ present in our neck which produces a hormone (Thyroxine). It is extremely useful and helps in many important functions of our body like – digestion, circulation, growth etc. In hypothyroidism, this thyroid hormone is secreted in lesser amounts, which lead to many symptoms.
Is it seen only in females?
Hypothyroidism is very common in females, but now even many men and children are affected with it.
Hypothyroidism can be seen in 2 year old children also, 20 year old girls too, 35 year old women too, and even in 60 year old man. Anyone and everyone can have this disease.
What are the common signs & symptoms?
Like malaria has fever, Acidity has stomach burning, R.A has specific joint pains; Hypothyroid doesn’t have any such specific symptoms. That is the reason why people don’t really come to know they have this disease.
Here are few of the important symptoms that you should keep in mind –
- Weight gain
- Lethargy (laziness, Slowness)
- Hair fall
- Menses changes, PCOD
- Constipation
- High Blood pressure
- Swelling in the neck
- Swelling of legs
- Swelling below the eyes.
- Dry skin
- Feeling too cold
- Muscle cramps
- Depression
- Excessive sleepiness
- Low Immunity
How to get yourself tested?
If you or anyone of your relative has any of these symptoms, it is always better to get tested. Rather than doing the tests by yourself, you should visit your family physician, consult with him and then get tested. It can be tested by simple blood tests, the reports are available on the same day.
Treatment of Hypothyroidism?
Hypothyroidism can be completely cured in many cases. The person need not take lifelong treatment. If the patient is young, diagnosed early, and takes regular homeopathic medicine – then the illness can be cured completely from its roots.
